Meet Dexter Morgan, your friendly neighborhood serial killer. But he uses his "powers" for good, so don't be haters, y'all! I guess I should warn that there's some graphic footage (when your lead character is a forensic blood spatter analyst and a sociopathic murderer, you'll have that), but it's used in a blackly humorous way here and I don't think it's too horrifying. It might even be sort of festive, given the Halloween season. Yeah, I'm going with festive. Boy, you sure turned that one around, mighty quick. And the visuals fit the lyrics just perfect.

Does your mind go straight to a certain soundtrack song while you're watching these shows for the first time, or does all that come about from your note-taking process after you sit down with a certain concept in mind?

	Seeing as how Dexter's my newest tasty morsel...

I really, really, enjoyed that. Everything after 1:17 was really good, but the last 45 seconds or so were untouchable. Perfect match. It all really jivved well. My favorite bits were the "just look behind the page" bit, the drinking noise bit, and again, the last 45 seconds hit it out of the park. Killer job---no pun intended. ;)

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed, especially since I knew you were also on board the Dexter train :) I was able to preview part of the song online before I ordered the CD, but then when I heard the whole thing and that drinking noise at the end, I was dying with laughter over how to use it. It was such fun to work with all of the song's peppy accents and figure out how to twist them for the vid.

Great video. You did a good editing job. But, I think what I especially loved was your choice of music. It sort of reminds me of those old gameshows (Price is Right maybe?), which cracks me up. Strangely, despite the chipper sound, the song still feels appropriate with the show.

A song with the right feel was definitely critical...as I mentioned in a comment above, I didn't think that anything that sounded like mainstream pop *or* edgy/alternative would really work, so I got lucky with being able to find this one! I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the vid.

Okay, I admit I've never watched the show but this video is awesome. (I downloaded it a few days ago but the princesses had me doing their bidding so I had to wait to comment ;) ) I love the music and how it matches up with the scenery. And even for someone who hasn't seen the show, it shows irony with a twist of scary just as this music seems to embody! hehe I need a new way to say "it rules" because you're always ruling the vids, lady!!

I adore this vid. It's bizarrely swinging upbeat but absolutely perfect for Dexter. Wonderful song choice and brilliant execution of the idea in the editing. Must watch your other vids once I've seen those other shows.

Absolutely awesome! The show is on my list to-watch, but I finally broke down and watched this anyway. And I'm so glad I did! It's slick, clever, and even without watching the show I can tell the song is a perfect match. Especially with your fantastic editing. The opening is wonderfully catchy with a lovely segue into the seedier side of the character, and I couldn't help wanting to chuckle (while cringing) at so many of those lemonade matches. And the last 30 seconds or so are just so, so cool. :D

Dexter is my shiny new love, and this vid made me very, very happy! Which is a weird thing to say with so many scenes of carnage, but what can I say? I find the sick sense of humour on the show really winning. *g*

The song choice is just spot on -- all that frothy irony and slick groove are perfect match for the tone of the show, and for the city of Miami itself as well. Your editing is splendid, and like a lot of people who've commented already, I'm in love with the last 30 seconds. Especially the kickass flow of the movement from Dexter circling down on his chair to him dancing with Astor in his arms. Smoooooth.

The rotation you mention at the end (in his chair and then with Astor) was something I really enjoyed putting in there...connecting some different aspects of his character by using footage with continuity in the internal motion. Plus, just fun because I'm a motion whore :)

This song is forever going to give me the creeps. In a totally good way. You really used to the song to the full extent. It’s almost like the song is the veneer he has on the outside to show people.

Love the zoom at about :11 out from the doughnuts, the light effect at :17, the :30’s with the fingers and the little effects are great. Those beats you hit around the :40’s when it slices made me smile, which is sick and awesome. OMG, the beats where he looks at the camera are perfect. And the slurp is what seals the deal.

Side note, many, many, many times did I drink lemonade while watching Dexter. It must have been my subconscious.

What a fantastic, perfect video! You should seriously think about doing video editing for a living.

I have to admit, when I heard the beginning of the vid, I was skeptical. "What kinda music is THIS for a series about a serial killer?!" But as the video went on, I am extremely happy to say I was completely, utterly wrong. Beautiful use of contrasting happy lyrics/dark bloody scenes. I can't wait to watch the rest of your videos (and believe me, I'm sure I'll be loving every single one of them)!!!

What a lovely and generous comment -- I can't thank you enough! I think the song makes the vid, and finding it was a real stroke of luck (quite rare that I go looking for a song to fit a concept...usually the music inspires the vid and that feels much more organic). When I heard the slurping part at the end, it was like the icing on the cake -- the song seemed tailor-made for this vid and I had so much fun putting it all together.

So I've deciding to do a Dexter chasathon as I watch the show :D I'm at 109 so this is the first one I can watch and OMG ! This is so wonderfully creepy !
the opening credits of the show already ruined bloody orange for me and now you're ruining lemons ? come on ! ;)
It's hilarious and uneasy, just like it makes you feel guilty to like dexter when you watch because he butcher people every other day. The limonade association is so cool, what a dark humor. man.
and the editing is awesome ! The show has such beautiful imagery, and you use it so well ! woo !
can't wait to finish S1 so I can watch the rest of you vids !

This show, for whatever weird reason, clicked with me immediately on all levels...I don't think I've ever vidded a show so *early* (literally only after the first four eps had aired), but the vid was really easy and fun to make after finding the right song for the concept. You know, that's really brilliant! Dexter kind of has this dream of himself as a fully functional 1950's Dad, so the song was perfect. Very nice timing with the jumps from blood and destruction to big, slomo waves, smiles, and donuts. Excellent job synching to the beats, and I loved Dexter spinning in his chair dissolving into dancing with the little girl.

I love that description! I really did feel there was something earnest about the song from Dexter's POV, even while it's funny and sick from the audience's perspective -- he's truly trying to make the best of what he was dealt.
