DAMN! When I saw this posted I was like, "okay, gotta actually sit down and give some proper feedback this time cos I shafted you last time with the 'melting brain' comment and nothing else." So I was gonna watch this and write feedback with timestamps and everything.
But of course I watch this, and my brain's been melted again. And you ain't gonna get coherent feedback this time either. All of it is just insanely amazing. You're so confident with a whole range of effects, ranging from subtle to very stylistic, and they all look absolutely fantastic and always so gorgeously synced to audio. The timing is impeccable, starting from the very first shots of the cars crossing her as she crosses the street. Amazing pacing, LOVE what you did with the lights and lighting flares.
Thematically I love that you took a step away from the usual approach of a Dexter vid and made it about a person who is more subtly damaged. More than that, I love that Dexter's voice comes through clearer and clearer as we go on and it becomes as much about Dexter as it is about Deb.
Amazing, amazing, amazing! You are my new vidding god.

Now, don't get me wrong -- this is the kind of comment that would send me into flailing glee no matter WHO left it, but the fact that you're a vidder who has melted *my* brain (with Post Blue...still gah over that) makes this really humbling to read. Multitudes of thanks for your kind feedback and the time you took to give it!

As I mentioned in a previous comment, I kind of go through phases with effects and using/abusing/not using them...I feared I might have gone a little overboard here but 1) all of the electronic sounds in Garbage really invite that sort of play and 2) I'd rather go overboard and wince about it later than not give it a go. I'm really pleased that you felt the range of effects worked, by and large. I'm definitely a beat whore and a motion whore...addicted to using as many musical accents as possible and matching them up to effects, cuts, internal motion, etc. And those lighting flares are so fun! That plugin for After Effects (Knoll Light Factory, though it's a limited version since the full one is hundreds of bucks) came with a tutorial book I got and was used in one of the lessons...so I'm all, "hey, I know what that thing does, kind of," versus all of the other shit in AE that I still don't know jack about. *g*

Re: Always the one who has to drag her down

I like that you don't go too far and keep things to what Deb knew about Dexter and Rudy.
It was really important that this NOT feel like Vibrate all over again. I knew I would have to cover some of the same territory, but I wanted to keep the focus on how those events related to Deb.
The sex section is handled amazingly and with those great static effects that don't feel cheap.
Whew for "not cheap"!!! I tried a static filter in Premiere first (part of a set of plugins), but I wasn't satisfied so I went into After Effects instead...more options/refinement available there, like being able to apply the static with a blending mode (which made it look a bit more subtle).
The ending is perfect; her looking at the camera smiling and, of course, breathing and going on.
I love that hint of a smile that starts right before she goes out of frame...I knew that had to be the ending. Not happy, but there's potential there. Like you said -- breathing and going on.
Your comments are so generous as always, kiki -- many, many thanks (and for the rec, too)!

Oooh, I have timestamp!glee -- it's so sweet of you to take the time to list favorite moments (and you may regret it, because now I will ramble)!
1:00 - 1:08- The juxtaposition between the clips and the lyrics here is so subtle and creepy, I love it.
This was one of the first scenes to go on the timeline...I was pretty sure that I wanted that hallway scene to be Rudy's introduction, but then there was the question of exactly where to bring him into the vid. I loved the juxtaposition you mentioned (ah, Deb, if only you could hear the lyrics...*hee*) and it felt right as soon as I put the clip there. It ended up being a structural anchor point for the vid.
1:45 - I love that you use this clip on "she knows the human heart." Perfect.
I'm so glad you thought it worked there! That's one of the clips that *had* to be used in a Deb character study, and it was just a question of where it made sense. Another anchor point, in a way, because from there I worked backwards and decided to use the sex scene during the section that comes before...to have that physical and emotional intimacy build up to everything falling apart.
2:23 - 2:42 - This whole interaction between her and Dexter just breaks my heart.
It wrecks me, too. I love that scene and it was very satisfying to get to bring the vid back around to the strength of Dex and Deb's sibling connection...stronger than he ever knew it was.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback!
