Title: With One Glance (download here) Fandom: Moulin Rouge (2001 movie) Music: The Tower of Learning by Rufus Wainwright Stats: WMV (42.7MB) or DivX (43.9MB), 3:46 All the sights of Paris pale inside your iris. This was submitted as a premiering vid for Vividcon next month...but the Premieres show is full, and I opted *not* to have this go to the overflow show (Nearly New) because I'd already submitted another vid for that and didn't want to bump it. Soooooo, long story short -- here it is now instead! What's there to say about Moulin Rouge? If you've seen it, then you probably already are quite sure whether you love or hate it, overstuffed pinata of a movie that it is. I have the big love for its special brand of crack, and this was an off-the-cuff vid idea (conceived while driving long distances over Memorial Day weekend and listening to music) that led to a purely enjoyable whirlwind vidding experience. I wish more of my vids went this way. Many thanks to obsessive24 for her invaluable beta input, which enriched this vid greatly :) Oh, I almost forgot the shameless begging for feedback, disguised (though just barely) in a phrase like, "Comments very much appreciated." Yeah, that! Tags: vids, vids [movies]: moulin rouge Current Mood: good

O.o ... *blinks* ... O.o
Wow. I am floored. You've made a video that Baz Luhrmann himself would squee at. Honestly, this was a spectacle. The quality, the colors, the clip choice, the effects, the MUSIC! How perfect is Rufus for this?! I'm just floored by the way you pulled out all the emotional beats in this vid. The storytelling is phenomenal. Everything's just gorgeous. GORGEOUS! I particularly loved from 2:29 until the end really. When he starts humming. I think you go into the climax of the vid there, and it's a real emotional gutter. When those curtains close, that's when you really pull out your bag of tricks, chasa. The clip at 3:00, and all the collected shots of her collapsing, is just breathtaking (no pun intended). And again, Rufus sounds so mournful there. I was clearly affected by this vid. Hence the rambling and the praise and the bowing down to you and your skill (and your witty Text document that came with the vid, lol!).
Sorry about not making it into the Premiere showcase, but hey, we good-vid-hungry folks on LJ got to see your vid and they didn't, so tough on them. :P

And I am floored right back by those sweet comments! Bless you!

I was almost ASHAMED when I was listening to the song in the car (Memorial Day weekend driving, which means much music listening) and the idea hit. I've had that CD forever. I've loved MR forever. How could I have heard "all the sights of Paris pale inside your iris" and not associated it with Moulin Rouge immediately? Am just slow, I guess ;)

You know, I'm really pleased that you like the end. It's a long run to the end of the song with no lyrics and I worked hard to give it a specific structure so that it wouldn't seem to lose steam after the lyrics end. Because of the changes in the music, it also felt like the time for some loooooooong fades...slower cutting speed...just generally a different tempo than in earlier sections...and though it felt right, there's always the worry that it might be boring.

I'm sure you know the exact feeling -- when you listen to a song and get really excited over an extremely emotional sound/vocal/instrumentation because you know you can pair it with something brutal :) We're a little bit sick. But that was totally my reaction..."YAY, that's where I kill Satine! That's so perfect...thanks, Rufus!"
Thank you again for the glee-inducing comments :)
