Oh yeah, Dexter is most certainly an addict in all his fucked up glory. Your editing with the drums and the vocals is killer (no puns here, no sir). The colors are all over the place, yet tight and perfect. It's all on the right side of weird. The flare of the sun is very cool, as are the time toggles, long holds, and morphy transitions. So much of it is in his eyes, which you make use of wonderfully. There's interesting play in the movement that makes things so lively.

I really appreciate all of the details you noted! The drum editing was particularly fun, I have to say...the song has a very staccato and in-your-face feel and I wanted the editing to reflect it. Thank you so much!

I loved this vid so much. I don't watch the show, but it's definitely more than enough to make me go 'Damn, why the hell am I *not* watching this show?'. I need to rewatch it again (and again and again), but I adored the pacing of this and the editing. Loved the intro too, really set up the vid (I feel like I would have gotten it anyway, but it really set everything together).

This would have to be my favourite ever Dexter vid thus far, although I hadn’t heard the song before. It suits Dexter & his second season shenanigans perfectly! And using the scene at the beginning to segue into the song was also perfect.

Your jump cuts, time toggles & zooms - together with the way it was paced were completely composed of awsm & just kept me rivited the whole way through. It’s definitely lit a fire under my ass to get started on the one Ive been meaning to do.

Ohhhh, new Dexter vid! I pounced on this as soon as I saw it. It was so exciting to see such a sophisticated exploration of Season 2 Dexter. And wow, I'm just totally blown away by your technical control and particularly your use of (and creation of) movement in this vid. It feels so tightly controlled--just like Dexter's approach to his addiction. He tries to keep it all neat and clean and tied down but it surges out of him--I love that ambiguity and this vid captures it perfectly.

Honestly, Dexter (the show) creeps me the hell out, and while this vid was playing during Premieres, I had to close my eyes during the bloody bits. But on second viewing in the hotel room on a small computer screen, I found the vid much more accessible. There's no denying that the editing is masterful; there's a wonderful sense of movement throughout, and I LOVE the voiceover section at the beginning. The other standout moments were the blood spatters against the white wall that make it look like he is painting with blood. Fantastic!

This vid scares the crap out of me, and yet it still also kind of amuses me and certainly compells me to keep up, keep watching. It's like a little mini addiction all its own.

Amazing timing and use of repeated visuals (bloody stuff, mostly) to make a precise narrative come through.

Okay, I just finished season 2 of Dexter like 4 minutes ago (OMG! Dexter, I love you, I wanna vid you right NOW !), and I had to rewatch this. :)

and wow, I remember thinking it was good from premieres but without knowing at all what this was about, it was harder to follow past the shiny. Your editing is splashy, and not just because of the blood splashing everywhere (which, btw, awesome ! (in the vid that is, cause otherwise, blood = aaaaah))

The vid is creepy and funny in a creepy way. I loved your use of jump cuts and time toggle. really woo !
and thanks so much for making watch the show, it is more than amazing, it's definitely entered my top 5 at the moment. and just in time for season 3 :D \o/

Dexter is such a creepily enjoyable show. The first time I saw the show, I didn't want to like it. However, the character and the actor who portrays him were both so fascinating that I could not look away.

The same can be said of this vid. I wouldn't have thought that Dexter was a show that would really work with a song vid. Evidently, I thought wrong; so much so, that I had to go back and watch this vid a second time after the first viewing. It was even better the second time around, so I figured that I owed you a warm fuzzy.

This vid was so perfectly done that everyone else can just put away their editing toys and go home. Seriously. You chose the perfect song, one that I hadn't heard before but that sums up the character and therefore, the show. Your scene selection and deft cutting created the mood needed for such a complex subject, creating a disturbingly likable vid (exactly like Dexter).

I am still surprised at how much I feel "at home" with this footage, as I have since I did my first Dexter vid after only four episodes had aired. It's really not the kind of show I thought I'd like, let alone feel compelled to vid repeatedly!

I have to be honest and say that I'm not big on Dexter vids because I'm easily squicked by gore, but I can get over that when they're this good. This is so deliciously twisted. There's a clash between the tone of the music and the violent imagery on screen that does so much to accentuate that.

And hee, I loved the dialogue at the beginning. The discussion about that during Vid Review was interesting. I'm not anti-dialogue in the slightest and I think this vid serves as a great example of how it can really strengthen a vid. You didn't need it to get your message across, but it was a cool way to start the vid off with a little smirk.

Your editing is great, as always. I love the transition with the blood spatter at 1:10, and the ensuing shakiness at 1:15 looks awesome and is very musical. The jump cuts were a great way of acknowledging a pretty strong beat without being chained by it.

So yeah, suffice to say I liked it. :) I'm quite chagrined that I didn't really know you before VVC but I'm glad that's changed now.

I totally get the gore squick -- I know it seems contrary to vidding Dexter, but I'm completely grossed out by anything verging on horror/blood/guts. Dexter bypasses that issue for me and I have no idea why.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this anyway and really appreciate the kind words about the editing. I agree that the discussion about dialogue use was interesting. I'm not violently for/against much on principle when it comes to vidding...if I find that something feels like it works in the moment, then *shrug*, hey, why not? To some degree, I kept in mind reports from last year's VVC when there were some folks who were upset over a Dexter vid that they didn't feel warned them appropriately for what was coming. My intro was akin to shouting, HI, THIS IS DEXTER AND HE KILLS PEOPLE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED KTHXBYE :)

I am *so* glad to have met you and hope we get more time to hang out next time. Maybe split a deep dish meat pizza or something (ugh, with 50 other people, because it would apparently take that many to consume one of those) ;)
